Referrals from your Dr are not needed to make a physiotherapy appointment. If it is an ICBC or Workers compensation claim, you are not required to have a Dr’s referral for the initial visit, however you may require one for subsequent visits.
If you are a private patient, most extended health companies cover a portion of your physiotherapy visit. It is recommended that you phone your private health company to verify how much they cover as they all differ depending on your policy.
Yes. 24 hour notice is required, otherwise a fee of 50% of the treatment cost will be charged.
MSP (Medical Services Plan) will subsidize a portion of physiotherapy treatment if you qualify for MSP premium assistance. MSP will subsidize physiotherapy, chiropractic, naturopathy, massage therapy, accupuncture, and non surgical podiatry, for up to a combined total of 10 visits per calender year. If you have been in a motor vehicle accident, you are entitled to physiotherapy treatment whether it was your fault or not. ICBC will subsidize a portion of your physiotherapy treatments up to 20 visits. You don’t need a Dr’s referral to start physiotherapy. Firstly you will need to phone ICBC on: 1 800 910 4222 to start your claim and get a claim number. On your first visit to the physiotherapy clinic, bring your ICBC claim number, date of the accident, the ICBC claim adjustor’s name and the phone number of the claim adjustor.

- Report your injury to your employer
- Seek first aid or medical attention if necessary
